Shaun Maphanga ready for the Dusi

Maphanga proves he is ready for Dusi

Florida Lake Canoe Club’s top paddler, Shaun Maphanga, made a strong showing at the 25km Elands River race on Saturday, 4 February. He finished in sixth position overall with a time of 1h47m and placed third in the veteran age category.

The annual race, which takes place near Waterval Boven, is known for its fast-flowing downhill gradient river with numerous rocky islands, boulders and overhanging trees.

The following day, Shaun was at it again when he participated in the Duzi Jozi Race hosted by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club at Emmarentia Dam. The 18km race around the dam included a 3km portage (running while carrying the canoe) as part of the training. He finished in a time of 1h29m, placed in sixth position and won the veteran age category.

Shaun’s hard work is all aimed at the upcoming FNB Dusi Marathon, which takes place from 16 to 18 February, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
