Talent nurtured in Polo tournament

Young development paddlers in action

Young paddlers from all over Johannesburg participated in the Canoe Polo Tournament at Homestead Dam last weekend. It was the first time ever that this development tournament, which was aimed at young development paddlers from various areas such as the East and West Rand, Emmarentia Dam and the Eastleigh Sea Scouts, was hosted by the East Rand Kayak Club.

Over 25 paddlers with a variety of skill levels took part in the competition. They were divided into four teams consisting of a mix of weaker and stronger players from various areas, to give everyone a fair chance. The teams competed in a round robin event, where the final was a closely matched game resulting in a score of 7–5.

The East Rand Kayak Club is looking forward to hosting the National Championships, in which a number of top Florida Lake Canoe Club paddlers will be participating, in March this year.
