And the award for the dumbest criminal of the year goes to …
Police acted on a tip-off.
This past Wednesday (11 January) Roodepoort Police arrested a suspect on a charge of being in possession of fake bank notes.
The police received a tip-off that a man loitering on Van de Linde Road in Witpoortjie was in possession of counterfeit bank notes. They responded and recognised the man from the description they were given by their source. As they approached him he immediately took out a R100 note and gave it to them, telling them to buy themselves some cool drinks. They found that the note was fake.
They arrested the 32-year-old who was found to have a second fake note in his possession. He has been detained at the Roodepoort Police Station.
