Please would you help by publishing a notice, or article in your paper about the problem Kloofendal Nature Reserve has with dogs from the neighbouring houses?
As a frequent hiker and volunteer worker in the reserve, I have noticed dogs there on many occasions, and it always seems to be the same dogs – Labrador/ Retrievers, some with long hair and one with short hair, golden in colour. On one occasion, we spotted a black one as well.
The staff at the reserve have difficulties establishing where the dogs come from. They always seem to be on the entrance side of the reserve behind the amphitheatre, in the hills, so are most likely coming from one of the houses on that side.
As you probably know, there are many small animals in the reserve, such as scrub hare, dassies, duikers and reedbuck, which would all be vulnerable to dog attacks.
Please ask the public if they know to whom these dogs belong, or where they come from, so that measures can be taken to keep the dogs out of this important cultural heritage facility and conservation area.
