Two hit-and-runs, guns, racism and a wild car chase
Men shouted racist slurs.
A DA ward committee secretary, Paul Molaodi, and a friend, Able van Wyk, put their lives at risk trying to chase down a truck that was eventually involved in two hit-and-runs this past Saturday (9 December).
It started at about 11am. Molaodi and Van Wyk were driving on Van de Linde Road when they saw a truck, of which the occupants allegedly wanted to illegally dump some rubble, making a turn. As it pulled off it collided with a vehicle next to the road. The truck driver did not stop and the two decided to pursue it and confront the two men. When the struck stopped, Molaodi and Van Wyk got out to speak to the two white men, but they called them the k-word and sped off.

They chased them down Generaal Pienaar Avenue from the direction of Ontdekkers Road. At the intersection of Albertina Sisulu Road the truck jumped the red traffic light and drove towards Krugersdorp. Molaodi and Van Wyk followed them.
After a short chase the truck pulled into the Witpoortjie Railway Station parking lot and made a U-turn. Molaodi and Van Wyk followed and while waiting at the red traffic light Molaodi again got out of the vehicle to confront the two men. As he got out they reversed their truck into his bakkie and sped off down Trezona Avenue. The two vehicles zigzagged through Witpoortjie but when the truck driver allegedly pulled out a gun Molaodi and Van Wyk decided to put their safety first and abandon their chase.
The driver of the vehicle the truck had crashed into first opened a case at the Roodepoort Police Station. Molaodi and Van Wyk gave supporting statements.
The white truck’s registration starts with BN. Anyone with information on the incident can contact Molaodi on 073 750 8035 or Van Wyk on 063 428 3077.
