Photos: Witpoortjie Spar hail damage

The afternoon of 7 December saw heavy rainfall accompanied by hail in Witpoortjie and surrounding areas wreaking havoc.

Witpoortjie Spar was one of the businesses that had to close its doors just before 4pm due to water flooding the inside of the store. The employees at the store, together with the owner and manager were already hard at work to clean up the mess in the store. One of their carports was also damaged when the roof caved in.

Jonny Goncalves, the owner of the store was quite despondent. “The hail storm damaged the roof. The water that came in through the roof caused a lot of stock damage as well as loss of turnover. The staff will be working late into the night to clean up everything, and as soon as we have replenished the stock from Spar head office, we will re-open,” he said.
