A Bacon and Egg Christmas

Toastmasters holds Christmas party

The Bacon and Egg Toastmasters hosted a Christmas-themed meeting at the Stages restaurant for their year-end celebrations. The year has gone smoothly for the organisation, which participated in the Areas Contest.

Elaine O’Gorman said was pleased with the club and how it has performed this year.

“We have three Humorous ambassadors, which is great for our club, and we have really great members who have improved this year.

Those members who started out this year as novices have now grown in confidence and have made remarkable strides. Being part of Toastmasters is also about networking and meeting people you wouldn’t ordinarily meet,” she said.

Cheron McNab was the Toastmaster for the day and her speech touched on Christmas traditions and where they come from – traditions such as the Christmas tree and its evolution, and Christmas Trees and Christmas Lights.

The first speaker of the meeting was Elaine O’Gorman who introduced ‘The Other Elaine’ and told how this Elaine has given her life to helping those who can not help themselves. Before it became government policy, she would take in three youths at a time, whom she could help and train in an industry until they were self-sufficient.

The second speaker of the event was Shaun Goodbrand whose speech titled ‘House of Cards’ was all about how Donald Trump must be a good Bridge player to have beaten Hillary Clinton in the US presidential elections. In the game of Bridge, East-West and North-South compete for the contract. In the elections, the East and West Coasts were Clinton’s strongholds while Trump dominated in the North and South,” he said.

Max Kaan, who was the table topics master, was feeling the Christmas spirit too while he was on the podium for some fun and laughter. While in song, Max called up a few members to talk about their ‘Christmas Fantasies’ and they were awarded with presents.

Guest speaker for the meeting was the accomplished Toastmaster, Dave Cairns, a three-time Humorous Speech Contest finalist. His speech titled ‘My Uncle Alec’ had fellow members in stitches. After the last speech, it was time for a raffle draw and the meeting was closed. The Toastmasters will resume their meetings next year, in the second week of January.
