More than two months after the one-day-old baby boy of the Mncube family was kidnapped, it seems little progress has been made with the investigation.
According to Sophiatown Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Jerbes du Bruyn, they are waiting for the DNA report from the Forensics Department. The Gauteng Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Community Safety, Sizakele Emelda Nkosi-Malobane also demanded that she be updated constantly on the status of the investigation.
The baby was kidnapped on 21 September when his mother, Thokozile Mncube accepted a lift from the alleged kidnappers who offered to drive her to her home in Florida from the hospital where the baby was born.
Over and above an investigation into the kidnapping, the alleged sloppy work by the investigation officer is also under scrutiny with a view to possible disciplinary steps.
