Great season for Impala Badminton

Impala Badminton Club

It’s been a rather successful year for Witpoortjie’s Impala Badminton Club. The club, which is based at the Witpoortjie Recreational Centre, and its members come from all over Roodepoort and some from Krugersdorp.

The members have helped the club participate in the Southerns League. The league takes place from May until October and has seven teams from areas such as Alberton, Wanderers, Highways Gardens and Berario.

Thanks to the players’ hard work throughout the season, the club finished in third position in the league. The club currently has 13 permanent members and 20 social members.

The club’s Neels Botes said they are inviting everyone in the community who is interested in badminton to visit the club. Neels has been part of the club for almost 10 years and is one of the top players, having represented the province on the national stage on numerous occasions.

Eduard Lotz, who is also a member of the club, said badminton is a family-oriented sport but needs dedication and passion. “The sport is not mainstream like rugby, cricket and soccer so we need exposure to show the positive aspects of badminton.

We need to teach the community what the sport entails.

One thing we will need to work on is integrating the permanent members who participate in the league with social members who are still beginners to build and maintain the interest they have in the sport. What is best about this club is that at just R100 a month, the club fees are not expensive,” he said.

The club has members aged from 13 to 70 and practices every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30pm till late. For more information, contact Neels on 074 104 6699.
