From being a shy toddler holding on to her mother’s leg to confidently walking down the runway, Estèe-Mari Smit has grown up. The eight-year-old from Wilro Park has been on a pageantry victory spree, collecting crowns at every competition she enters.
Estèe-Mari started entering pageants when she was just three-years old, when her mother Triexie signed her up. This was because she was so shy that she would cry and cling to her mother’s leg every morning, when she was dropped off at crèche.
“A parent at the crèche advised me to take Estèe-Mari to a modelling school to build her confidence and self-esteem.
Since then, her school work has improved and she can confidently sing and dance in front of people. To see her grow and transform into a young lady is so exciting. The maturity she shows, whether she wins or not, is great,” said Triexie.
Since winning her first pageant (Ms Vaal), Estèe-Mari has gone on to win even more titles such as Miss Jacaranda and Junior Face of Miss Jacaranda. She also won the prestigious Miss Million Dollar.
“Winning Miss Million Dollar was amazing. It is a big competition and to win it when there were so many girls vying for the prize feels good. I want to continue modelling for a long time because I enjoy being on stage,” said Estèe-Mari.
This Grade 2 learner at Laerskool Helderkruin doesn’t only excel on the runway – she excels in her school activities too. She has received plenty of awards at prestigious competitions such as the National Eisteddfodd, RACA and ATKV, where she participated in categories such as dance, poetry, singing and Afrikaans monologues.
