Witpoortjie’s pageant girl, Mbali Msimang, has been blazing on the runway, making 2016 her year. Just this year alone, Mbali has won eight titles and starred in several television adverts.
This proves that Mbali’s star is continuing to rise. Some of the prestigious titles she has won include Miss Gauteng andMiss Royal Spring Queen. She was also crowned Miss Ribbons 4 Roses and named as the organisation’s ambassador
“I am happy that this year has been so awesome. I experienced so many different and new things. I got to be on a production set for the first time and that was scary. But soon excitement took over and just watching and learning was amazing for me, said Mbali.
Mbali, who also appears in advertisements for Milo Cereal and Golden Cloud, owes her meteoric rise to the top partly to Laerskool Roodebeeck where she is a learner. The school recently helped Mbali to fundraise so that she could compete for the Miss Gauteng title. The school even presented her with a gift at an assembly to congratulate her on her victory.
Her mother Shantelle said she is proud of Mbali’s achievements this year and how much she has improved.
“Whenever the advertisement plays on television, she calls me to come watch. To see my daughter’s success is both exciting and humbling because I know how hard she has worked. She has a great teacher in Valerie Bergie from Vogue Model School in Krugersdorp,” she said.
Mbali is now happy to be one step closer to being just like her role model, Dr Laverne Asante, a former beauty queen model and currently a medical doctor at the Gauteng Department of Health.
Mbali added that only through education can one achieve one’s dreams.
“Education comes first, if you have it then nobody can take it away from you,” she said.
