Two pedestrians killed within an hour on N1 highway

Two pedestrians were killed within an hour on the N1 highway between Beyers Naudé Drive and Gordon Road on the West Rand on Friday, 28 October.

Shortly after 7pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the N1 north near Gordon Road, where they found a male pedestrian with fatal injuries. He was still lying in the middle lane of the highway. There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.

An hour later, paramedics from ER24 responded to another pedestrian accident on the N1, this time near Beyers Naudé Drive. Paramedics found the man lying in the middle of the road with fatal injuries. He too, was declared dead on the scene.

The vehicle that collided with this pedestrian was hit by another vehicle after the first one came to a standstill on the highway. Three people, including a child, sustained minor injuries. They were all assessed and treated on the scene.

Johannesburg Metro Police attended both incidents and will conduct an investigation.
