Every picture tells a story
The event was part of their yearly effort to raise awareness and money for a cancer project.

Everyone released a white balloon in remembrance of a loved one with lung cancer at the Lions Club Wilro Park on Saturday, 8 October, at their Cuppa for Cansa event.
The event was part of their yearly effort to raise awareness and money for a cancer project. This year’s event was extra special – for two reasons. The first reason is because the Lions are celebrating a 100 years of service and the second one was working with two special artists, Bernie and Leoné Brandt.
The hostesses outdid themselves with their tables – the colours were beautiful and there was no shortage of delicious treats, ensuring the 100 guests were well looked after.
The decision was made to highlight lung cancer this year and the theme for the day was “Every Picture Tells A Story”. Artists from across Roodepoort, Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg came together and decided to donate some of their paintings which were sold at the event. “We are artists and will paint – regardless. This is a way for everyone who has paintings hidden away in a drawer to donate them to a good cause. For a small donation, someone can also enjoy the artwork. We will donate all money raised to Cansa,” said Leoné.
Bernie gave an inspiring talk on his contribution to the Lions project. He decided to spread love, light, hope and strength through his lighthouse art. He said he paints lighthouses because they are beacons of light.
The event was filled with beautiful paintings, tasty treats and a lot of fun and laughter. But, that was not all – every woman attending the event left with an artwork by one of the artists who is part of the Lions Club Project. There was also a number of prizes up for grabs, as well as a raffle for a beautiful painting. The draw for the painting will take place later in the year at a function in Cape Town.
Delphine Ferreira, the President of the Wilro Park Lions Club said, “All the money we raise during these projects will be donated to a cancer-related project. We live by our motto, ‘Where there is a need, there is a Lion’.”
