It’s been more than two months since we, or rather our journalist, Riaan van Zyl, started to investigate the motorcycle syndicate that is apparently operating on the West Rand.
However, the Roodepoort Police still remain mum on the allegations. We have not received any correspondence from them whatsoever.
Provincial Police called me one afternoon about a month ago, sounding very anxious about the fact that we publish ‘ negative’ articles about the police and promising they would send comment as soon as possible. We have not received anything yet, but then again they did not say in what year they will grace us with a response.
Last week we received a video as proof of how the police officers treat members of the public when they try to open cases. Although the audio is not very clear, you can clearly hear the irritation, contempt and the lack of compassion in the officer’s voice.
And guess what? Still no comment from the police. Silence is golden, I suppose. I wonder what needs to be done to get them to react? And this is only from the media’s point of view. I would hate to try to open a case at that station – I don’t think there would be any reaction of any sort.
Since we are at a loss even after the query was escalated to provincial level, the next step would be to go even higher. So many people have lost complete faith in the Roodepoort Police and I don’t blame them.
Is there anybody out there who has something positive to say about the station?

Until next week, stay safe and take care of one another.
Ciao
