Amrusha and Arushen in counting frame

Pupils know their numbers

Abacus Maths recently held its sixth annual Abacus and Mental Maths competition. The exams were held at the Church of Christ in Bush Hill, and more than 300 contestants from all over Gauteng, plus some from KwaZulu-Natal, participated.

Maragon Private Schools‘ pupils Amrusha and Arushen Naidoo excelled in the competition, bringing glory home to their school. Amrusha, who is in Grade 4, received two trophies for her performance on the day –one for Abacus Maths Top Achiever and the other the Abacus Maths ‘Attitude is everything’ trophy.

Arushen, a Grade 1 pupil, was also awarded with two trophies, one for Abacus Maths Champion and the other the Abacus Maths ‘Attitude is everything’ trophy.

The winners of the regional championships will now have an opportunity to participate in the National AMSASA championship, to be held at Hoërskool Roodepoort on 22 October. At this event, the contestants will find out who will be eligible for the GASJMA (Global Association of Japanese Mental Arithmetic championship) next year.
