National S’mores Day
Enjoy this gooey deliciousness on #NationalSmoresDay
The most popular campfire treat is celebrated annually on 10 August as it is National S’mores Day.
S’mores consists of a roasted marshmallow with a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two pieces of cracker.
No campfire is complete without enjoying some of this sticky, gooey deliciousness.
The entrepreneur Alec Barnum is credited with the origin of this tasty snack, however the first recorded version of this recipe can be found in the 1927 publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.
Even though the girl Scouts were not the first ones to make s’mores, Girl Scout groups describe them in their reports as early as 1925.
Earlier recipes used the name “Some Mores”. It is unclear why it was shortened to “S’mores”.
Today s’mores are made in many different ways. Some people spread peanut butter on the crackers before adding the other ingredients, use peanut butter cup cor other candy bars instead of chocolate, or they even use marshmallow cream instead of roasted marshmallows.
National S’mores Day is sponsored by the National Confectioners Association.
To celebrate find a s’mores recipe to your taste, make a big campfire and share with your family and friends.
