Four people were injured when two vehicles collided in Newlands yesterday morning (7 August). The incident occurred at the Ackerman Road and Rorich Street intersection.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found both vehicles in the middle of the intersection. They inspected the scene and found four people with injuries.

“One of the injured, an elderly man, lay trapped inside one of the light motor vehicles.

Rescue services had to use the Jaws of Life to free the man,” he said.

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries, which ranged from minor to moderate, and thereafter transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
