The Florida Police are concerned about criminals targeting property sellers, especially those who display signs from estate agents showing that their property is on the market.
In most instances two females and one male pretend to be viewing the property and consequently one, especially a woman will ask to use the bathroom so that she can remain behind while the owner takes the other two through the house. She then steals valuables from the house – usually laptops, cellphones and jewellery.
Those who fall victim to these thieves must open a case of theft so that an investigation can be done.
The owners are advised to ensure that they are not alone when people come to view the house and that all valuables are kept out of sight. They must also ask for any form of identification from one of the viewers. Should one of the strangers ask to use the bathroom or for a glass of water, someone must remain with the person. Make sure to memorise or write down the registration number of the potential buyers’ vehicle.
