It’s in Discovery’s hands

Mandela Day celebrations

Discovery Full Service Primary School decided to celebrate Mandela Day in a unique way.

The pupils, and all the staff members, headed to the school’s sports field and painted their hands. Then they placed their hands on the stands, leaving their hand-prints behind. This is because the school has taken the words of Nelson Mandela, our former statesman to heart. He said: “It’s in your hands to make a difference”.

“When Madiba was alive we had a sports day each year. But now that the initiative has moved on to 67 minutes, we decided to do something special and meaningful. We want to demonstrate that the school belongs to everyone,” said Grade 6 English teacher, Jenine van Villing.
