An elderly man is in a critical condition after being struck by a motor vehicle on Main Reef Road in Roodepoort this afternoon (7 July).
Netcare 911 paramedics worked alongside paramedics from another emergency service on scene. According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, the man was intubated on scene to assist him to breathe.
Intubation is the placement of a flexible plastic tube into the trachea (windpipe) to maintain an open airway.
“He was stabilised on scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” she said.
