Zoë van der Plan and Raquele Pretorius recently made it into the Southern Gauteng Hockey team.
The two Hoërskool Bastion pupils participated in numerous matches, starting with the D2 and D12 District hockey trials earlier this year.
Round after round, they had to show off their skills. They proved they are of the best as they were successful in all their matches. They then went on to the trials for the Southern Gauteng team, where they once again excelled.
Zoë, who was chosen to play in the C team, said she was ecstatic about her selection for the team.
“I am proud that I managed to make it into the team. Now I am excited for the upcoming matches. I am grateful to my family and coaches for all the support they have given me so far during this season,” she said.
Raquele, who made it into the D team, said she would not have made without the strong support structure she has.
“My family and the coaches have been there for me, helping me wherever possible. So making it into the team is thanks to them,” she said.
The Southern Gauteng hockey team will participate in a national tournament during the July school holidays.
