More outages hit Florida and surrounds

Second unplanned power outage in Florida and surrounding areas this week

It was chaos in the greater Florida area this morning in terms of traffic management as many traffic lights were affected by another power outage this week.

This is the second outage the Record reports on this week, but residents took to Twitter to complain about three to five outages in the past 10 days. It appears the outage has affected areas such as Florida Lake, Florida North, Bergbron, Northcliff, Florida Hills, Quellerina and Fleurhof since around 8pm last night.

By 8.30am this morning the power in most of the areas has still not been restored. Many residents made use of City Powers online fault-logging system to lodge their complaints, taking the reference numbers to Twitter to try to get an explanation from the entity’s social media department.

According to the managers of City Power’s social account, “We’re aware of the outage and working on restoration”.
In another tweet, City Power told one resident, “Our technicians are on site at Florida Hills”.
It appears the fault lies with a substation in Florida Hills. Yesterday, Randpark Ridge residents had similar frustrations. On Tuesday (3 May) some Florida residents were without power until about 4.30pm. The fault was detected at the Nursery substation, where a feeder cable was malfunctioning.

An estimated turnaround time has not been given.

The Record could not get hold of City Power spokesperson, Yumna Sheik for official comment.
