Pikitup announces holiday operation schedule

Here's the arrangements for household refuse collection and garden sites on public holidays.

With the two upcoming public holidays in mind, Pikitup has announced how waste collection will work when residents take a day off.

On Freedom Day (Wednesday 27 April) and when Workers Day will be observed (Monday 2 May) household refuse collection and garden sites will operate as per normal schedule.

“Residents whose refuse collection coincides with these public holidays are advised to put out their bins for collection as per their normal refuse schedule,” Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu in a press statement said.

“All 42 garden sites will be fully operational during these public holidays, from 8am to 5pm,” he added.

Mashapu advised residents who want to get rid of recyclable waste during this period to use garden sites to dispose thereof. After the holidays, normal refuse collection rounds will continue in accordance with the schedule.

“Remember, waste is not simply something we throw away, it has economic value in the recycling economy,” Mashapu concluded.
