Three-car pile-up leaves woman seriously injured

Jaws of Life used to extricate occupant.

On Saturday night (10 April) at 8.45pm Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a three-vehicle collision along Dobsonville Road.

Reports indicate that the Toyota Camry and another vehicle collided head-on. A bakkie then crashed into both vehicles. The exact details as to the cause of the crash, however, will remain a subject for police to investigate.

The Netcare 911 paramedics, their rescue unit and the fire department found a woman with serious injuries trapped in the wreckage of the Camry. Her boyfriend allegedly had absconded from the scene.

Rescue officers used the Jaws of Life to extricate the patient while medics clambered into the wreckage to stabilise her. After the patient was cut free from the twisted metal, medics immobilised her on a trauma board and then removed her from the vehicle. The seriously injured female was transported to a nearby hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic.
