Maragon Private Schools Sheldon Naicker participated in the Provincial Chess Tournament in January this year.
The grade nine pupil excelled at the competition, winning the Board Prize for his section.
This means he won all his games on that board. He also won all of his games in his section in the National Tournament while his team also came first in their section.
The tournament had 2200 participants with each team consisting of a manager, coach and 10 team members.
A game can last 3 hours, though his longest game was about 2,5 hours.
