I recently logged into the Ombudsman for Johannesburg City, I was very much angered by what I saw on the Website.

The bureaucrats that are always ready and able to place hindrances in the way of transparent delivery of services to us who pay rates and taxes are at it again with a ridiculous and in my view a completely unconstitutional interference in the rights of citizens who wish to seek redress,

The rule in question which I honestly believe needs to be highlighted and brought to the attention of all the citizens of Joburg City. Concerns the time that needs to elapse before the ombudsman’s office will lodge the complaint.

The much vaunted ombudsman’s office that was created with the express purpose of allowing Citizens to lodge complaints about problems , and there are indeed many with lack of service delivery and the inability of receiving even handed treatment. From Public servants.

This iniquitous and completely unfair rule requires a complainant to wait for a period of 90 days to elapse after the complaint was first lodged. With the municipal department or responsible official. This off course is all in the interest of speeding up delivery and resolution of any grievances that a citizen may have.

This unfair and un constitutional rule needs to be set aside forthwith. And the period of waiting needs to be reduced to a fair and reasonable time.

I invite all residents to contact the ombudsman’s office to verify my assertions the telephone number is 087-980 0058.
