Pikitup welcomes your bulk waste
New service of removing bulk waste proving quite successful.

If old mattresses, electric stoves, computers, humidifiers, ovens and refrigerators fill up space in your house or garden that you’d like to put to better use, Pikitup can help dispose of it in a green way.
Since it has started collecting these sorts of items in its bulk waste service in March last year, more than 4 000 tons of bulk waste have been disposed of. These items are not taken to a landfill site, as the typical practice, but rather to either a recycling plant or buyback centre, where other residents can benefit from it.
Pikitup managing director Amanda Nair recently appealed to residents to make use of this relatively new service while she appeared on SABC’s Morning Live show.
All residents need to do to use the service is call their nearest Pikitup depot and provide details of the bulky waste they need collected.
“What we then do is schedule a service for that particular customer. There’s a service programme in place. If residents visit www.pikitup.co.za they will be able to see the dates and weekly collection schedules,” Nair on the show said.
“These items might be disposable for some but there are many people who can put them to good use, or they can be recycled.”
The service does not include the collection of hazardous waste, such as discarded paint tins, explosives or flammable materials.
In Roodepoort, bulky items can be collected once every third Saturday of a calendar month, so make sure your address is on the list to have bulky items collected. Contact Pikitup’s Roodepoort depot on 087 357 1549.
