Cocoa has many health benefits.

Monkeys were the first creatures to discover the cacao plant was edible and and tasty about 1 500 years ago.

Cocoa contains large amounts of antioxidants that may help prevent cancer. It has also been shown that the cocoa beans help with digestion.

Modern research has also discovered that chocolate reduces levels of stress hormones in the bodies.

That should be more than enough reason for you to have a cup of cocoa today.

To celebrate National Cocoa Day, here are five reasons why cocoa is good for you:

1. According to a study conducted at Cornell University in America, the antioxidant concentration in hot cocoa is almost twice as strong as red wine. Cocoa’s concentration is also two to three times stronger than that of green tea.

2. Compared to a standard chocolate bar, cocoa generally has much less fat per serving.

3. Hot cocoa can improve blood flow, help lower your blood pressure and improve heart health.

4. Flavonoids (provides health benefits) in hot chocolate also help prevent platelets in your blood from mingling together and forming clots. These molecules are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables

5. According to an online report, drinking hot chocolate can help you think better too. The flavonoids increase the blood flow and oxygen to the brain.
