60 years for Fred and Coral

Celebrating 60 years of marital bliss.

Fred and Coral Maier will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on 16 December.

The couple met at St Mary’s Cathedral in Johannesburg and married in 1955.

Their eldest daughter Ruth was born seven years later in Yeoville where they lived after getting married.

They then moved to Florida Park where they had two more daughters, Caroline and Claire who are 51 and 43-years-old respectively.

87-year-old Fred supported his family as a diamond polisher. In his mid-20s after World War II, Fred’s father encouraged both him and his brother to go into the diamond industry as it was a highly paid job.

Coral, who is 83-years-old worked at Anglo American and Wits University as a secretary. She then volunteered at Gateway Village and was very active at St Gabriels Anglican church in Florida.

After retiring almost 20 years ago, the couple traveled overseas to different countries to visit family and friends before moving into Kruinpark Retirement Village in Wilropark.

Fred is still a passionate gardener and loves Protea bushes and Rockeries. He also enjoys trying out new recipes in the kitchen with his favourite being anything German and curries.

Coral enjoys crosswords, reading and knitting.

They have four grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlin, Aimee and Justin, who they are extremely proud of.
