The elderly march on Aids Day

Elderly march for a cause.

The Gauteng Older Persons Forum in partnership with the Departments of Social Welfare and Health as well as Sparrow Aids Village and Age-In-Action marched from Florida Lake to Cecil Payne Stadium.

This was to highlight the plight of the aged who have to take care of their grandchildren as their parents have died.

One of the elderly women who marched along in her crutches was tired but happy as they arrived at the stadium.

“The distance we had to march was far but I enjoyed the day. This is a good cause we are marching for and we have to raise awareness on the elderly taking care of their grandchildren.

Sparrow Village’s senior social services manager Kundai Marufu, who organized the march, said he was happy with the outcome of the event.

“It was a real success. To see the community get together with the help of Nedbank, Florida Police and ER24 is just amazing. Everyone enjoyed the walk because it’s for a good cause,” he said.
