The Record is looking for a trainee journalist for 2016.

The internship will be for the whole year and the candidate will be based at the Record‘s office at the corner of General Pienaar and Ham Street in Witpoortjie.

Requirements are a passion for writing, caring about the community and a matric certificate with a good pass mark. The candidate must have an interest in newspaper journalism and must have English as a first language or an “A” pass rate. A flair for writing is an added advantage, but it is also important to be a people’s person, be self-motivated and reasonably computer literate.

The candidate preferably must live in the Roodepoort area and will start the internship in February next year. Cadets will spend three months at the Caxton Training Academy where they will be introduced to basic journalism, media law and digital media. They will learn to improve their writing skills and conduct interviews. After the three months, the person will join the Record on a full-time basis until returning to the academy in November to write exams. The company will do its utmost to find employment for the cadets when their internship ends in December. A mentor will be allocated to ensure the trainee journalists reach their full potential.

Each month the candidate also will receive a stipend.
