Bokke vs USA tonight

The referee for tonight match will be France’s Pascal Gaüzère.

With the lack of green and cold in the streets of Roodepoort, it is clear that residents have forgotten that the Springboks are playing their final pool B match against the USA tonight.

However, they dare not miss the match that could see Bryan Habana close the gap on the test try scoring record.

Habana is currently on 61 tries making him third on the all-time list behind Japan’s Daisuke Ohata who had 69 tries and Australia’s David Cempese who scored 64 tries in his career.

Schalk Burger is another South African who will equal former captain John Smit’s South Africa record of 17 Rugby World Cup appearances when he steps onto the field tonight.

Looking at their record against the USA, the Bokke will be relaxed tonight but will be wary as they look to secure top spot in their group and await the winner between Australia and Wales this weekend.

The Springboks have played the USA three times before, coming out victorious on all three occasions.

Their first clash was in 1981 and the Bokke won 38-7.

It would be 20 years before they faced each other again in Houston where South Africa won 43-20.

Their next clash was in the 2007 World Cup group stages where the Boks showed their superiority and beat the USA 64-10.

Only four players, Habana, Burger, Fourie du Preez, and Bismarck du Plessis were part of that 2007 squad that played in the last match against the USA.

This experienced referee has officiated two matches involving South Africa.
