Scuffle after MEC’s meeting ends

An angry resident verbally attacked a member of the Safety Task Team dealing with the Roodepoort Primary saga.

A scuffle broke out yesterday in Matholesville when the Gauteng Education Department had a meeting with residents.

The meeting was held to address the issues surrounding the Roodepoort Primary saga.

The angry resident then verbally attacked a member of the Safety Task Team only known as Anna about the way they are going to deal with the situation.

Anna said “All locks and keys will be changed with immediate effect and no visitors will be allowed during school hours.Visitors will be escorted to the principle’s office. Because the community requested police to be at the school’s premises when learners arrive at school and when they leave, that will be done.”

“You are misleading us! ” said the resident repeatedly moments after the meeting took place. He emphasised he did not trust the security measures they promised to implement and does not believe it will happen.

The meeting provided concerned parents with a platform to give suggestions based on what they think would be in the interest of their children.

Suggestions such as the committee has to keep their promises and catch-up programmes need to be implemented so children can be up to date with their school work popped up at the meeting.

It was clear from the response of the resident that not everyone believed what was said.

However, the parties involved are looking forward to the changes that will be implemented.

Siyabonga Misiza, Region 5 Zonal Deputy Chairperson of the ANC, said “This is going to be a clear way forward. Everything that was damaged will now be restored and I am very happy with the current resolutions.”

Gauteng Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) Panyaza Lesufi told the Record how delighted he is about the changes.

“I am over the moon. The parents have taken a decision to put the children’s future first. All the pupils will be back at school today and we will monitor the situation and trust things will go well.”
