Photos: Illegal connections operation nearly turns violent

The power in this area could be off for as long as a week

Princess — A part of Albertina Sisulu Road had to be closed of this morning when Princess Informal Settlement residents started pelting City Power contractors and vehicles passing by with stones.

The contractors had to remove illegal connections after the substation’s transformer exploded this past weekend due to the excessive illegal connections. To protect the contractors and the public heavily armed police with riot vehicles, as well as the Metro Police came, closed off the road and escorted the contractors.

According to City Power the power in this area could be off for as long as a week.
