Parts of Witpoortjie still without power

Some without power for more than 57 hours.

Parts of Witpoortjie are still without electricity despite a suburb-wide outcry about it yesterday.

Hordes of residents inundated City Power, City of Johannesburg and the Record with phone calls and reference numbers of electricity issues logged with the municipality. It seemed only the upper parts of Witpoortjie (towards Ontdekkers Road) experienced loss of power yesterday, but today calls came in from all over the suburb.

More on Witpoortjie’s outage: Power in Witpoortjie still a hassle

The Record checked all reference numbers it received on the City Power official fault logging system. All three reference numbers pertaining to yesterday’s outage are recorded as “resolved” with feedback on one reading, “feeder two between Robertville and Spokeshave”.

This morning resident Doreen Sardinha sent in a new reference number she received at 1.30am this morning. She reports the family have been without power for more than 57 hours and have lost her infant’s pureéd foods as it has defrosted in the interim. Meat and other vegetables have also been spoiled. According to the fault logging system, this reference number is “in progress” meaning technicians are working on site.

As of 11.24am this morning City Power Roodepoort operations manager Noel Maso has not made himself available for comment, not answering his phone, after rudely telling theRecord yesterday that technicians are working to resolve it. City Power Roodepoort’s phones are apparently not in service.
