Burger pupils knitting for #67blankets initiative

Participating in this initiative is easy.

Pupils and teachers of Hoërskool Die Burger have been knitting and crocheting away to help the needy this Mandela Day (18 July).

They have joined in on the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day or #67blankets national initiative, which started after a person was challenged to make 67 blankets by former personal assistant to Mandela, Zelda la Grange. A facebook page was started and has grown to 5 989 members, all having pledged to make blankets. To date 7 000 blankets have been made and handed over to people in need.

Teacher Hilde Ebersohn recently posted to the page, thanking the group for letting the school participate.

“Our pupils have made good progress towards crocheting and knitting squares [to make blankets] — it will be a proud day for us when we hand over the blankets we’re making,” she wrote.

Blankets can be knitted or crocheted and should measure 150cm by 200cm (a standard single bed size). Squares of any size or colour are accepted.

To partake in the initiative:
