There are only two weeks left to collect for Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) and the team from Roodepoort Forensic Pathology Services seems to be well on their way to “win” the challenge.

First of all, the Record thanks those people who so generously donated blankets and dog and cat food. Your unselfish act will never be forgotten and although you didn’t want to be named or photographed in the paper, we really do appreciate it tremendously.

I have always believed that if it is too cold for me outside, it is definitely too cold for animals. The blanket donations we received will help them, especially those who are sick, abandoned and abused.

Last week Roodepoort Police lost two of their own in an accident on Ontdekkers Road. Apparently the driver of the BMW was speeding when he crashed into the police vehicle. It is terribly sad and we send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the two policemen.

Accidents dominated the news in the Roodepoort area last week. People are very irresponsible on the roads lately. This led me to find out if South Africans are under the top five country that has the worst drivers.

In the fifth place is Indonesia, mostly because their law enforcement is on a very low level. Americans are in the fourth place because of their reckless driving and it is said that accidents are caused mostly by intoxicated and distracted drivers (sounds like South Africa?).

Coming in at number three is Brazil and its Wild West drivers. They have an enormous number of car thefts and high-speed chases. In order to survive Chinese traffic, you need to master the art of defensive traffic, thus giving China the second spot. They simply have a blatant disregard for any road rules, but people are used to it, apparently.

The number one spot is reserved for India where an enormous number people die as a direct cause of car accidents.

Do you think South African drivers should be in the top five position? Let us know.

Until next week, take care of one another.
Ciao
