Water wastage infuriating residents

It is a precious resource, resident Sheila James said.

They’re wasting a precious resource simply by taking too long to fix a water leakage in Kroton Street Park.

Those are the words of resident Sheila James who lives in a complex nearby and is annoyed at the fact that the leakage, which she reported to City of Johannesburg yesterday morning (17 June) has not yet been tended to.

Another resident and friend of hers reported it days before, James told the Record.

“The water has been flowing out of what seems an incomplete water meter for days now, it looks like Victoria Falls outside our complex,” James said.

Upon closer inspection it seems the leakage is the result of unfinished Joburg Water pipe installations just a few meters from the meter, on the sidewalk at the end of Mango Street. James said that she also believes the meter is faulty.

According to Joburg Water spokesperson David Sibiya the turnaround time for a reported faulty meter is between three and four working days. However, it seems the fault logged has been closed as there was confusion with regards to the address of the leakage, said Sibiya.

“I am still in the process of liaising with the depot to confirm whether technicians were sent out,” he said.

In James’ case, a new fault might be logged and reference number given. The Record will update the story as it develops.
