Dancers set dance floor ablaze
The event, hosted at Mount Usambara had 250 pupils from the academy duking it out for the title.
More than 500 people were in the audience when the Mario Gomes Hip Hop Academy recently held its West Rand Hip Hop Championships 2015 two weeks ago.
“The support for hip hop dance has grown so much and I’m truly humbled. What makes me the happiest man alive is to see dancers from different ages, races, backgrounds and styles coming together for the love of dance,” said Mario Gomes.
With 300 pupils learning how to pop, lock and krump at the academy, 135 dancers have qualified to represent South Africa at this year’s Hip Hop World Championships.
“I’m so proud of all my pupils. Over the past few months, my academy dancers have been taking gold or finish in the top three positions in the various Hip Hop National competitions that we have participated in. That is something to be proud of for being such a small community,” said Mario.
