Roodies into rugby play-offs

Roodies qualified for the Middle School League playoffs

Hoërskool Roodepoort rugby’s first team has qualified for the play-off’s of the Middle School League.

They beat Hoërskool Carltonville 23 – 19.

Carltonville’s Mazwi Ndlovu put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute before his teammate Vendrè Fourie doubled their lead in the 44th minute.

Just three minutes later, Roodepoort’s Corrie Vrey scored a try followed by Michael Rae in the 64th minute.

Vendrè added a third for Carltonville Michael, who converted three penalties, would be the hero for his team.

Roodepoort’s head coach Louw Parsons said he was proud of his team performance despite the lack of discipline they displayed on the field.

“I am very happy about the victory but the discipline of the players was not in place today. However, the players showed character against a tough opponent and managed to win.

Louw did however point at the positives of the match despite a need to improve.

“The team was physically better today and our line-outs worked very well. We still have room for improvement before next week’s play-off match,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the second teams took to the field. Roodepoort claimed a 29 – 25 victory against Carltonville. In the U/15 match, Carltonville won 17 – 15. Their U/14 team also beat Roodepoort 12 – 0.
