New SGB has drive and purpose

The embattled Roodepoort Primary has finally held their school governing body (SGB) elections after much controversy leading to the Gauteng Eduacation Department (GED) closing it in April.

The election which took place on 23 May was well attended according to new chairperson and ex-teacher Maelekanyo Mphagi. The other five members that were voted in were Amanda Roussow, Mapula Mathou, Phindile Magonondo, Bobby Hunsley and Keamogetswe Maserwe.

Mpaghi excitedly told the Record that the new SGB are planning several projects but are appealing to the Roodepoort business community for financial and other help.

For the first time in the school’s history they plan to make use of the many sport amenities in the area and venture into different sport disciplines.

“For this we will need sponsorship though for things such as sport kits and equipment,” said Mphagi.

The SGB also plans to build a computer learning centre, erecting a new palisade fence and extending their feeding scheme.

Anyone interested in supporting the school can contact Mphagi on 083 966 5112.
