Bastion to take on Linden at Ellis Park

Hoërskool Bastion’s premier rugby team will be facing off against their Hoërskool Linden counterparts at the Emirates Stadium

Hoërskool Bastion’s premier rugby team will be facing off against their Hoërskool Linden counterparts at the Emirates Stadium, formerly known as Ellis Park this weekend.

This is part of the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s project of returning schools rugby to the stadium.

Lions match and referee manager Theuns Naude paid a visit to the Bastion this morning.

The reasons were to handover 2,500 tickets to the school and give team captain Donovan Theron the match ball.

“I am very proud as the captain to receive the match ball. It is a great honour to have the opportunity to play at such a historic stadium. The team will work hard to win the match on Saturday and make our school proud,” said Donovan.

Theuns, who has been working hard to arrange more school rugby matches to be hosted at the Emirates stadium said he was happy that both schools were willing to participate.

“This is a plan to bring schools rugby to the stadium. We are trying to make Saturday a family event so parents and children will get the opportunity to not only to watch Bastion play but the Lions too. We will try to get more school games to be hosted at the stadium,” he said.
