Roodepoort Primary still not plain sailing

36 schools investigated for irregularities.

Roodepoort Primary’s woes seems to continue after it made an unsavoury list this past week.

This time the school is one of only three schools in Gauteng which did not manage to vote in a new school governing body (SGB) during the SGB elections in March.

According to Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education Member of the Mayoral Committee (MEC), these are the third largest elections in the country after the national and municipal elections.

Lesufi said in a reply to the DA’s Member of the Parliamentary Legislature (MPL) Khume Ramulifho that his department had to investigate 36 schools for non-compliance with SGB regulations, interference with the elections and voter intimidation.

Roodepoort Primary has asked the department to postpone the election of its SGB pending the investigation that took place surrounding the appointment of the principal and her two deputies.

In April Lesufi decided to close the school due to ongoing protests but later re-opened it.
