Electricity theft City Power contractor style

Contractor caught in the act.

A resident from Groblerspark, who wants to stay anonymous due to the nature of her occupation, received a shocking surprise when she came home early from work this morning.

She said she arrived at her home near the corner of Belmont and Elm Streets at about 11am. On her arrival she noticed City Power contractors laying cables. After being in the house for half an hour she saw some of the men busy at theelectrical box in front of her house.

The woman says because she does not want a smart meter she quickly rushed out to stop the men only to find them not installing a smart meter but finding they have connected their jackhammer to her electrical box and been using it for the good part of half an hour.

The contractor then allegedly tried to lie his way out of it but she insisted they remove the illegal connection.

According to City Power’s way leases with contractors, contractors are supposed to supply their own power. The woman said there was a generator on site but she assumes it ran out of fuel.

City Power asked for the information in order to investigate and said they will comment soon.

When the Record tried to phone the contractor, the number was out of service.
