Dawn a knockout
14-year-old Dawn won a silver medal at the South African National Amateur Boxing Organisation
Vikings Amateur Boxing Club’s Dawn Deutschmann won silver medal at the South African National Amateur Boxing Organisation. The event was hosted in the Free State last month.
She qualified for the competition by excelling in the Western Gauteng and Gauteng trials earlier this year.
“The first round was fine for me but after that I physically did not feel great which affected me in the final round. I’m sure if I was physically in top shape then I would have won the final match,” said Dawn.
Last year Dawn made it through to the South African finals, however, there were no boxers available in her division and unfortunately did not get the chance to get into the ring.
“I am excited that I just got the chance to fight this year because last year was really disappointing for me after looking forward to such a big event and being there,” she said.
Meanwhile, the boxing club’s head coach Phillip du Randt has been chosen as the manager of the Western Gauteng Elite Boxing team that will be participating in the Gauteng Championships next month.
“It feels good to be recognised and given such a responsibility. We now have to work hard to look for sponsors and make sure the team is taken care of,” he said.
