Bastion draw with Dinamika
We have to stay positive and move forward.
It was a heated affair this weekend as Hoërskool Bastion’s senior rugby team hosted Hoërskool Dinamika from Alberton.
In the first half, the two teams were evenly matched as the visitors could not penetrate the defence of Bastion despite having numerous attacking chances.
Just before the close of the half Dinamika’s Johan Pretorius produced a bit of magic to score the match’s first try.
However, a scuffle between players on the stroke of half time spilled over to the stands as two parents almost came to blows because of a disagreement. The first half ended 0-7.
The second half kicked off and the home team asserted themselves, probing the visitors defence at every turn.
It took a driving maul from Bastion to cross the line with captain Donovan Theron registering the team’s first points of the match but missed the conversion.
Bastion continued to push and the brilliance of the captain shined once again as he forced his way through Dinamika’s defence to score his second try of the match.
Bastion however missed the conversion to settle on a 10-7 lead. The game was not over and the visitors would not go down without a fight.
Their pressure in the final third of the match earned them a penalty. The team took the three points on offer and the match ended in a 10-10 draw.
“We had our opportunities throughout the match but we did not take them. However, we have to stay positive and move forward.
A draw is like kissing your sister but we’ll take it. I’d like to thank our defensive coach Freddie van Zyl who has done a fantastic job with the team,” said Bastion head coach Wesley Pretorius.
