Meteoric Maimane victorius
Veteran journalist's remarks nearly overshadows congress.
Local resident Mmusi Maimane has been elected as the DA’s first black leader this past Sunday.
The 34-year-old Maimane allegedly beat his rival James Wilmot with 90 per cent of the votes. In his speech he said the President, Jacob Zuma, must know the DA ‘is coming for him’ with reference to the reinstatement of corruption charges against him.
He continued to say that when the DA leaves Port Elizabeth every step they take will ‘be closer to the Union buildings’.
Maimane’s appointment was nearly overshadowed by the veteran journalist Allister Sparks’ comments during his tribute to Hellen Zille, when he sang the praises of Aprtheid architect Hendrik Verwoerd.
