I had just filled up with petrol at the Caltex garage at corner Golf Club Terrace and Joachim van Platternberg Streets and was waiting to pull out onto Golf Club Terrace when the man in the bicycle came past me.

The driver of the light delivery vehicle was at the stop street on Joachim van Plattenberg – when there was gap in traffic he pulled off to get across Golf Club Terrace ut clearly didn’t see the bicycle and the man on bicycle drove straight into the side of his vehicle, smashing the big side window.

I stopped immediately pulled my car over and ran to assist the man lying in the road. He was bleeding profusely from his head. I got some kitchen towel paper and held it on his head to put pressure. He had lost so much blood. The driver of the van called the paramedics and another woman also stopped and called the ambulance. We assisted until the paramedics arrived.

I stopped at the Caltex garage yesterday and enquired with the petrol attendants if they knew if he had survived and they told me that he came there the day before trying to get information on the man the pulled out in front of him – unfortunately I didn’t even think to take down any details as was too busy trying to stop him bleeding. They say he has some memory loss now after the accident.
