Tennis ace off to Wimbledon
Asner Louw will have a chance to see her favourite tennis star Serena Williams when she travel to London for the Wimbledon tournament.
Aszner Louw will be jetting off to London and Scotland next month as part of the South African tennis team.
The Witpoortjie tennis ace was one of 12 athletes chosen in the junior U/15 team after she competed in the Interprovincial trials in March.
The team will tour the two countries, playing against their top academies.
In London, the athletes will have a chance to watch their tennis heroes play at Wimbledon.
“Tennis is an individual sport which teaches you discipline and self-motivation. I enjoy playing it,” said Aszner.
The Monument High School pupil started playing tennis at seven years old and was taught by her father Arnold.
This is one of the reason she admires Serena Williams.
“Serena is my role model and I look up to her. She was coached by her father just like I was and she has a devastating serve. She started playing tennis at a young age like myself,” she said.
Arnold said he is proud of his daughter’s achievements as she has worked hard for them but he is also worried about the financial aspect of the tour.
“I’m proud and poor because we have to foot the bill for the trip. It is already our responsibility to make sure she enters tournaments, have the right attire and equipment and get extra lessons. It takes commitment and self-motivation to be in such a sport because she has no free time for herself,” said Arnold.
