Nearly 1 000 items donated already

"The Pet and Bird Farm would like to thank everybody for the massive response we have received," said Garry Saunders, one of the owners.

After a published call for donations, the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm were able to donate 958 items and cash to Fremar through Solidarity Helping Hand.

Fremar is a South African branch of an international organisation, Remar, a non-profit organisation that helps people who live on the margin of society.

They specifically offer free rehabilitation to recovering drug addicts. Limited resources have forced the organisation to incur a long waiting list of people in need.

They made their way to Fremar on Thursday 16 April by which time they had collected 958 items, including 869 clothing items, 38 toys, two couches, two chairs, one oven and one stove top, 13 pillows and a baby car seat as well as a cash donation of R110.

“Thank you to everybody who got involved as your donations touched the hearts of people that really needed the help this winter,” Garry said.

He said that the company would be accepting donations for Fremar on an on-going basis. They’re located on Albertina Sisulu (previous Main Reef) Road. The community is invited to donate any food, unwanted clothing, toys, blankets and household appliances to the cause.
